Games added: Nothing

Last week: Finished nothing, played Rogue Legacy 2, Enter the Gungeon, & Vampire Survivors

This week: More RL2 & VS

I think I'm about done with Enter the Gungeon - I've more or less hit the extent of my abilities, and since you don't unlock anything that give you any advantage or offers any sort of progression, it's just beating my head against a wall. On the other hand, Rogue Legacy 2 is excellent - I'm at the third boss now (bosses stay dead ;) ) and I'm still having a blast with that game. Also, new free Vampire Survivors expansion dropped, so I'm back on that. :D

became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the
desire to be very grown up.” ― C.S. Lewis

Played recently: Final Fantasy III

Finished: nothing

Added to backlog: nothing

Current backlog: 45

FF3 was the only game in the Pixel Remasters I hadn't played. I was waiting to get the whole shebang on disc, but finally decided to just get the digital FF3 for $12.50. I really enjoyed 1 and 2 (along with 4, 5 and 6), so it's no surprise this one has hit the spot. I'm in the last sections of the game and will probably go for platinum. (Should be easy unless I missed a chest or something.)

Some roguelikes make me feel that way, but others are invigorating like little else. It really just depends on the overall sense of fun and resistance and how those polarities intermingle. A recipe that's hard to define, for sure. But when it hits, BOY does it ever!

***************

I think I'm close to done with Ion Fury. It has been a total blast, and I think I'll want to go another round sooner or later at a higher difficulty. And I surely want to get the DLC which is apparently and essentially another full campaign, if a bit more brief.

In my OOTP league, I'm about 2/3rds through the first regular season. My squad (yet to be revealed) is playing better and is over .500 in our last 40+ games after an absolutely wretched start. (Certainly no playoffs in season 1) In addition to having a poor scout for the initial draft, I tended to more heavily draft young players with great upside that still needed to be developed, leaving my big-league roster a little barren. But after some GM-cap wheeling and dealing, my manager-cap-side self now has at least a semblance of a big-league roster to compete. My #1 pick has had two major injuries as well, the second of which put him on the shelf for the rest of the season. I still signed him to a new contract after the fact, hoping that he would recover fully because he is an absolute stud when healthy. I got him on a bit of a discount after the season-ending injury, and I only gave him a shorter 4-year deal with a team opt-out in the 3rd year (with a buy-out fee of half the yearly salary). He's 28 already, and worst case scenario, I think he'll be worth those 4 years, assuming he's healthy. I have one other great player that has had to shoulder more than his share of the burden in carrying this team offensively, but he's got the 3rd best WAR in the USBL (and was the highest all-star vote getter) and I just re-upped him for another 8 years. He's 25 and that will carry him through his prime. (In the initial draft I allowed for fictional players entering the USBL to range from the upper teens all the way through about 40 because this new league was going to be harvesting players from already existing regional leagues (in my head canon), and so it made sense to have a broad age range for that inaugural draft. But going forward I've set the upper limit for new players entering the league via the draft to 25 years old since the USBL would have already mostly picked clean the carcass of all the smaller leagues that fed this new Super League.) Jeez, I realize how impenetrable/strange this must be for most of you. Oh well, I'm a nut! :P

Anyone watch the first episode of The Last of Us season 2? I don't remember all of the parts of the story, but it'll be interesting to see what changes they make and where they stop in the 2nd game for the break between seasons 2 and 3.
