Games added: Nothing

Last week: Finished nothing, played Crimson Desert & enough of the Adventures of Elliot demo to get a feel for it

This week: CD

Adventures of Elliot demo was fun, it plays like an old-school Zelda. I'll pick it up eventually, once it gets cheap.

Watched the latest Mortal Kombat movie over the weekend. It was cheesy, but the fun kind of cheesy that you would expect from a MK movie. It's a good time. 3 1/2 / 5 stars.

Played recently: The Messenger

Finished: The Messenger

Added to backlog: nothing yet

I finally beat The Messenger over the weekend. Great game with fun platforming and cool bosses along with plenty of charm and humor.

But it taught me that my days of challenging action/platformers are over. This isn't seen as a particularly difficult game, yet I went over 1,000 on my final death total (thanks for the info, Quarble). Very unlikely I could beat Dead Cells, Hollow Knight or any others that are touted as hard. Time is undefeated!

I'm not sure what I'll play next. We will see!

Dead Cells is all about finding the right build. It's tough but not frustratingly so, if you played & beat something like Hades (can't remember if you have or not) I'd say it's about on par with that difficulty-wise. I'm just talking about beating them both once btw, not the over & over to get the "true" endings. That's a young man's game! :P

Good info. I've tried Hades twice and don't quite get it. Maybe the third time will be the charm. (That's what happened for me with Guacamelee... fell in love with it after two meh starts.) Or maybe it's not for me!

Why didn't I ever hear anybody talk about how great Quake is?!? :P I know I'm more than a bit fashionably late to this party, but man what a blast that was. I'm playing the included expansions after the main campaign now, but I didn't expect such an excellent time. I know it's a beloved game/series, but it really exceeded what I was expecting going in. And there are so many community made mods and campaigns to play as well if you like the fundamentals. I wonder if I'll like Quake II as much?

Also, brethren of gaming, I have an announcement. ahem...I FINALLY BEAT SPELUNKY! At around the 43 hour mark of this run, I did it! I played 20-ish hours a decade ago as well, and while I've made it to Olmec a good number of times, I just never finished the job. But now...NOW, I finally AM *somebody* - worthy of love! :P Such a fun game. Now I want to uncover some of the secrets, and maybe I'll look up some of that stuff that isn't so obvious. You know, this ended up feeling like one of the more satisfying gaming wins I've ever had. I was surprised at how satisfied I felt afterwards - probably because it was unexpected, given the length of time it took. It just happened and I was overjoyed! It always felt doable even with continued failure though. Part of the brilliance of the game, I suppose.
