Played recently: Ball x Pit

Finished: Ball x Pit

Added to backlog: nothing

Well Ball x Pit turned out to be more addicting than I thought. I beat the game and then went back and did a decent amount of the trophy stuff (finishing levels with different characters and whatnot). I might go for the plat. The one thing holding me back is you have to do every level with every character, and some of them are sucky and will take a long time.

AI's gonna get us all isn't it?!?

Time for the old man who's sat plucking the keyboard of life to gently close the lid on the keys and just watch it all burn, I suppose. :P

I'm afraid we'll ultimately be the architect of our own doom - like the puppet master who is so preoccupied observing the movement of the strings beneath their own hands that they never even bother to notice what is attached from above. We integrate tools into our world and wield them as we will, but we - more often than not - become the servants to our invention rather than the master. We build our lives around things and then are surprised when they consume us. Life is a funny game.

Well, enough darkness, ha.

I've still got to finish up DQ8. For some reason I didn't find the map of the final area for the longest time, even though it's very close to the entrance. I got all twisted around, but now I've got it and I think I'll soon make my way towards the ending. What a fun time it has been!

I am squarely in the camp of those who hate AI and want nothing to do with it. It's a massive negative in every possible way.

I'm right there with you, and I think we've only begun to see the absolute tiniest tip of the overwhelmingly massive iceberg beneath - a terrifying behemoth indeed. In my heart of hearts, I most certainly live in a pre-industrial world - probably even a pre-agricultural one. But within the context of this life, I am surrounded by technology. And the fish is bound to the pond/waters in which it swims. And so I have come to utilize and affiliate myself with what is available to be experienced. And certainly I have some ambivalence towards the presence of technology, given my obvious love for games, a possibility that is only available within this foreign (to my nature) world. Of course, nothing is an absolute positive or negative - only in relation to other factors and conditions. But yeah, I don't think AI is a net positive until and unless things reach a tipping point in which the pendulum swings in the other direction. This current set of conditions within this world are nonetheless absolutely riveting and thrilling in both a mysterious and largely unpredictable way. I am transfixed by the unfolding.

What the heck, man. This is a GAMING board! Send me to my well-deserved time-out! :P

Games added: The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy & the Xenoblade Chronicles X Switch 2 upgrade patch (I've waited long enough for it, I think it counts!)

Last week: Finished nothing, played Fallout NV & a little Xeno

This week: Nothing at this point, but I'll play a little of those this weekend

Tam told me I should play the Old World Blues DLC in New Vegas, so I'm going through that. It's pretty good so far, so I'd say a good recommendation.

Coincidentally I'm at a tech conference for work this week that has a large focus on AI (as everything tech related seems to these days). I kinda have to use it due to my line of work, and it DOES have some uses for trouble shooting issues, working out problems, etc. (it's basically a very powerful search engine in those instances). I'm not a fan of any of the generative stuff, and that's only going to get worse. I know it's already making its way into gaming and music. I believe as far as music goes, it's not going to play much of a role in any REAL music of any substance - if a machine can reproduce what you do musically, I'm of the opinion that it wasn't something that was very good to begin with. I really don't know what they're doing or planning to do with it in the gaming realm. I'm becoming more & more of an old man anyway, with more of the modern gaming world seeming foreign to me every day.

I'll be at this conference until Thurs, then on my way back home I'm going to swing by and stay a night with my folks (Tam came with me, so it's a mini-vacation for us). Will be back home sometime Friday, so I'll probably get some gaming in then - I think I'm probably close-ish ot the end of OWB, then I'll focus on Xeno.

Oh, I almost forgot, the used mom & pop game store got in a copy of Halloween / Ash vs Evil Dead - a double pack of side-scrolling indie pixel games that looks really cool. They're holding it for me, so I have to swing by there this weekend & pick that up.

"When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed
if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I
became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the
desire to be very grown up.” ― C.S. Lewis

Yeah, argyle, I think those who have the drive to create will always continue to create. My concern is relative to the amount of non-human "creation" (plagiarism) that is and will be inundating the collective space. It almost feels like there must be some sort of *divide* where things are clearly separate, but I'm not sure how that is possible other than in the form of living artistic expression that resides outside the digital realm. Anything that is accessible within the purely technological arena will be suspicious at best for those who wish to engage with the human spirit unsullied by the effects of AI. Change is a constant.
