The Backlog Check-in Vol. 381: 4/19/25: Days Gone Remastered Edition
Re: The Backlog Check-in Vol. 381: 4/19/25: Days Gone Remastered Edition
Games added: Nothing
Last week: Finished nothing, played Vampire Survivors, Rogue Legacy 2, & Blue Prince
This week: Same, especially Blue Prince
Wow, Blue Prince is an absolutely amazing game. When's the last time you needed a notepad handy to take notes in a game? Well, you better have one for this one. It's a rogue-lite puzzle game that's not like anything else I've played. You're exploring a house with your end goal to be to find a hidden room to claim your inheritance. But every day the house resets - when you go to a door you're presented with blueprints for 3 different rooms and you choose which one to create. So you're building the map each day. There's a LOT more to it than that, and it's insanely addictive. My wife had started playing it first, and I was holding off starting it to let her play on her own - playing the exact same game side-by-side can, of course, create spoilers. But after a few days she told me she wanted me to play it so she could discuss it with me, so I started (I had been wanting to anyway, what little I had seen of her playing had me very interested). It's actually a lot of fun trading off notes (on puzzles we are both still actively working on, if one of us has solved something we don't just give it away for the other person). Some of the puzzles are VERY cryptic. And these aren't puzzles like The Witness, they're more organic mystery-solving type puzzles. If that makes sense.
Anyway, this is one of those games I very strongly recommend to everyone here. It's GOTY-material.

Re: The Backlog Check-in Vol. 381: 4/19/25: Days Gone Remastered Edition
Finished: Nothing
Now Playing: Octopath Traveler II
Added to Backlog: Nothing
Current Backlog: 40 games
After debating several options, I decided to start Octopath Traveler II. Maybe 5 hours in, on my second character, and really enjoying it so far. The visuals are nice and the voice acting is solid - we shall see how it all comes together.

Blue Prince sounds really fun. I had already put it on my wishlist from some other internet chatter, but nice to hear your positive take as well.
I finished up Ion Fury, and wow what a fun game! I already started up another run on the difficulty above normal, but I'm not sure if I'll stick with it. It's not that it's grown tiresome, but it's rare that I want to retread my steps immediately after completing a game. But it's just so easy to turn on and kill some baddies, search for secrets and keep going. We'll see.
I should probably sink my teeth properly into Ecco The Dolphin before it gets relegated to the back of my mind altogether, and crim hunts me down due to my lazy ways.

Re: The Backlog Check-in Vol. 381: 4/19/25: Days Gone Remastered Edition
Played recently: Final Fantasy III, Astro's Playroom
Finished: FF3, Astro
Added to backlog: nothing
Current backlog: 44
So I platinum'd FF3 last week... glad I finally got to that one, very enjoyable.
Right about that time, I got my fantasy hockey second-place money, which enabled me to get ... a PS5! The Astro Bot bundle. Ordered from Best Buy on Friday and it arrived Saturday.
I spent much of the weekend playing Astro's Playroom and platinum'd it yesterday. That has to be the best pack-in ever. What a great showcase of the PS5. I was smiling pretty much the whole time I was playing it (aside from when I screwed up trying to get the time trials trophy).
Not sure what I'll play next. I'm taking some games to Gamestop later to get some credit so I can re-up PS Plus. Might do Extra for a short time... a lot of stuff on there I need to play.

This is crazy...
Any of you all jumping on that?
I loved the original when I played it... up until I had to close all those Oblivion gates. Very tedious. I wonder if they've improved that aspect.

Re: The Backlog Check-in Vol. 381: 4/19/25: Days Gone Remastered Edition
It's on GamePass, so I'll definitely give it a go. Gonna be hard to pull me away from Blue Prince for very long right now tho.
Re: The Backlog Check-in Vol. 381: 4/19/25: Days Gone Remastered Edition
I got enough credit to buy a few PSN cards and get a few months of PS+ Extra. Now playing Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. After that... well I see Blue Prince is on there.
