The Backlog Check-in Vol. 378: 3/29/25: The Last of Us Part II Remastered Edition

I fully expect them to drop those game prices. I keep thinking of the 3DS launch when they had that system overpriced, it sold very poorly as a result, so they dropped the price about 6 months later & gave away digital games to the early adopters as an apology. I don't see the system itself dropped - personally I was hoping for $400, but $450 isn't unreasonable IMO - but those games, definitely. I am hearing the $90 physical price is misinformation, $80 is all that's been confirmed on any US website so far - but look, that's splitting hairs, I'm not paying $80 for a game either. I expected them to go $70 retail on games since that's where the rest of the industry is at this point, sadly. But jumping above even that is nuts. And I don't think I've paid $70 for one yet (not cash, I may have used Bing credit or a coupon or something else to get a $70 game down to my price).

All of that said, I still plan on picking up the system at launch assuming I can get a preorder in, because I want to play 60fps Xenoblade. I'll wait on the Switch 2 game prices to settle.

And the game prices. $90 for "physical"? Needless to say, I am wayyyyyyyy out on Switch 2. Nothing they could put on there that would sway me. (Well, maybe a new Midnight Club or Dark Cloud or Valkyria Chronicles 5 or ... )

The social media reaction was so negative... I wonder if they'll reverse course or just stand firm and see how many people will bend over.

Yeah, Nintendo knows (or at least hopes) that the momentum of the first Switch will carry them forward. But the large scale economics of things may or may not allow such confidence to be rewarded. Personally, as much as I enjoy a great deal of Nintendo's output, I don't tolerate such shenanigans. A Steam Deck is far (FAR) better value on so many fronts. But I've got such a big backlog of Nintendo games (and I didn't even buy Switch 1) that I'm good. I'll happily play those when I'm in the mood without paying the premium upgrade surcharges, the rust proof undercoating, and the overcharge - you're a sucker - surcharge fees and whatnot. Suck it Nintendo! Maybe they need another WiiU situation.

Another crazy thing was a paid software for the "demo/intro/whatever" thing where you explore the Switch 2 features? WTF is that. I saw a lot of negativity for sure. Also, Nintendo doesn't historically lower game prices for older stuff, so Mario Kart world is still gonna be $80 5 years from now? I don't know my overall interest level right now.

Oh, I platinumed GTA San Andreas and had a great time doing it!



I forgot about the riots and how crazy things were in Los Santos.

Last thing I did was Vigilante/Brown Thunder. Many fools blown up.

No idea what I'll play next.

However, there I am minding my Black Puerto Rican ass business letting Nintendo announce their whatever...and then, Sega betrays me. How could they do this to me? Yakuza 0 remastered is Switch 2 exclusive? Excuse me? The hell did I do to Sega to deserve this? I mean, **** Nintendo always and they still won't get my business...but I wanna play Yakuza 0 remastered. Because I have so much time...wait, maybe this is for the best. It took me over 5 months to get through Infinite Wealth and all...but I still don't like that this is a Switch 2 exclusive. I buy new systems for Kingdom Hearts, nothing else !

Yo, we shall see what happens with Y0 Remastered - maybe they'll port it eventually?

Nice job on the platinum! Wait, the lest obtained trophies according to psnprofiles are the car exports (3 lists) and the marathon? Hmmm, my finger hurts just remembering the button mashing for a long time on the marathon. Some of the vehicles can be tricky to locate, but i still think i have a map of the ones with spawn locations.
