Phaseknox’s Top 10 Games of 2024

I finished 10 games last year:

10. Almost My Floor
This is a 2D side scrolling point-and-click style adventure horror game with an interesting art style and clever logical puzzles. The story and characters are on the strange side, but interesting. The puzzles are logical where they’re fun to figure out on your own. It’s an indie that’s low budget and on the short side, but I enjoyed my time with it.

9. Raging Bytes
This is a retro style 2D top down view pixel art turn-based JRPG that takes place in America in the 80s. It’s a zombie apocalypse game where you travel through a city meeting and helping people along the way. It’s comical, fun and quirky with an entertaining story and cast of characters. The only really disappointing aspect of it is that it ends somewhat abruptly without the story being completely resolved.

8. Asdivine Hearts
This is a retro style 2D top down view pixel art turn-based JRPG that has a decent story and cast of characters. It has a lot of charm and humor that keeps it entertaining throughout, and it’s fairly lengthy.

7. Last Day of June
This is a third person adventure puzzle game with a cartoonish aesthetic, but sad story. It has a unique time loop mechanic, and you play different scenarios as different characters. It’s on the short side, but entertaining the entire time.

6. A Space for the Unbound
This is a 2D side scrolling adventure puzzle game with an interesting story and cast of characters that takes place in Indonesia. The art style is appealing, the puzzles are clever and it’s a good length.

5. Life is Strange: True Colors
This is a third person story driven adventure game with dialogue choices, and light puzzle solving. The graphics are appealing, and the story and characters are good for the most part. I didn’t entirely like the direction that things went near the end and the endings weren’t as satisfying as I would have liked, but it was still an entertaining experience throughout.

4. Life is Strange 2
This is a third person story driven road trip adventure game with dialogue choices, and light puzzle solving. The story and characters are really good, and your choices impact a lot of how the story unfolds. It’s quite lengthy with a lot of variety where you go throughout. It was gripping from beginning to end, and I really enjoyed the overall experience.

3. Avengers
This is a third person action adventure game where you play mostly as new Avenger Kamala Khan, but as the other Avengers at times as well. Kamala is an appealing character, and I enjoyed playing out her adventure in this. It offers good combat and platforming with some exciting scripted events and set pieces in the more directed levels. Playing as different Avengers for different scenarios added variety to things, and there’s a good amount of different places that you go. It all wraps up with a satisfying conclusion.

2. Stray
This is a third person sci-fi adventure platform puzzle game where you play as a cat. The graphics are gorgeous, and the concept is unique. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this game, and I got emotional at the end. It’s one of the more memorable gaming experiences that I’ve had in a while.

1. A Plague Tale: Innocence
This is a third person action adventure stealth game with a great story, and cast of characters. The graphics are topnotch delivering a compelling and dark medieval atmosphere. The gameplay is a good blend of action, puzzle solving and stealth. The game offers a unique concept of a rat plague, and how you have to navigate the environments. It’s entertaining from start to finish with a satisfying conclusion.

Nice list!

I have only played Stray, but I agree with everything you said. Great game that's different than a lot of others. I think I have Life is Strange from PS+, so it's on my radar though I don't know much about any of them...need to double check on that one.

I've only really played one of those (I dabbled with Avengers, but not enough to draw any conclusions) and that's your #1, which I agree with you on. The first Plague Tale is just fantastic, it was really a nice surprise for me the year I played it. It's unfortunate that the sequel goes in a more Uncharted-esque direction rather than sticking to what the first game excelled at.

You have several on your list that are either in my backlog or in my to-pickup list as well - Stray, Last Day of June, and A Space For the Unbound. Gonna have to move Stray up on my pickup list, I really need to play that one soon.

I haven't played any of those, but I have Plague Tale from PS+ and will give it a shot based on what you said.

Thanks for sharing your list and thoughts phase!

The only ones I'd played were Last Day of June (gave it a 3/5 on 1/22/22) and Life is Strange (gave it a 2/5 on 8/9/17). I've got several of the others in my library, a couple on my wish-list and a couple I'd never heard of.

But look at it this way phase, even in a very down year for you in some ways, you found some time to enjoy *some* games at least. Hope your 2025 is much better...in all ways.

Edit: I think the Life is Strange that I played is not either of the ones you played, but I still didn't really care for it.
