I meant to get in a spooky game for Halloween season, but the time kept moving, ha. I've only been playing OOTP and a little Slay the Spire. I've got to make some time for some seasonal frights. Even if it passes Halloween, fall is a good time regardless. Maybe I'm due for a replay of Silent Hill 1.

Hey friends, hope all's well!
Played: Gotham Knights (so aside from the opening cutscene...I was raised that if you have nothing nice to say...), Megaton Musashi W Wired (I am still confounded as to how Level 5 fumbled this so badly that no one ever talks about it...this is a fun as hell 7.5/10 and should be a cult classic!) and Ghost Trick (I have a lot to say...)
Bought: nothing
Beat: nothing
So. Ghost Trick. Not my jam with the puzzle/visual novel thing AT ALL. Play it every time I get a couple of minutes. I am up to Chapter 8. No idea how many but it's a real page turner. I get real The World Ends With You vibes from the end of each chapter and I NEED to know what and why next immediately. It's always cheap (think I got it in some humble bundle) and if you like a good mystery, go for it! I am also drawn to the ridiculous character designs and the goddamn cops are just theatrical, idiotic goofs! It's got style, a good solid mystery and Yakuza/LAD style tonal whiplash. Good stuff!

Re: The Backlog Check-In Vol. 460: 10/24/26: The Wolf Among Us Remastered Edition
This week has been brutal, I'm VERY glad today is Friday...
Games added: Sticky Business, Chained Echoes, Death end re;Quest Code Z, Promise Mascot Agency (all Switch), & Dynasty Warriors 3 Remastered (ps5)
Last week: Finished nothing, played Balatro, RE4 Remake, and a little DW3\
This week{/b] I finished up RE4 the night before last, and I've been playing Balatro still. The DLC for Crimson Desert comes out today, and it's a doozy, so I plan on diving back into that.
A couple of game shipments came in last week - my Super Rare order that had Sticky Business, Chained Echoes, and my physical copy of Little Misfortune, and then an order from Play-Asia. I've heard a lot of great things about Chained Echoes, and I'm really curious about Promise Mascot Agency - it sounds nuts.
One more game in route: that's the new Castlevania. Should be here very soon.
I'll wait & give my final thoughts on RE4 in next week's post. Very glad I finally got around to playing it, though. And crim, glad to hear you're enjoying Ghost Trick so much. I'm not one for graphic novels either, but as you said, the story in that game just instantly hooked me, and it's VERY hard to put down. I'm still upset I didn't insist we name our chihuahua Missile.
I haven't posted any movie reviews lately because I've mainly been either rewatching movies I've already seen or watching shows. But this one...hoo boy, this one calls for a review.
The Breadwinner. Haven't heard of it? Do yourself a favor and keep it that way. I was visiting my parents a couple of weekends back and decided to put this on because it looked inoffensive and decent enough. Simple setup: the man's wife starts her own business, forcing him to stay home for a while to run the household. Shenanigans ensue. The main problem is that the husband, who is the top seller at his auto dealership, is apparently otherwise a complete moron. I am not exaggerating when I say there is literally a scene where he cannot operate a toaster.
I'm going to let that sentence sit for a minute.
Still with me? Because he apparently doesn't know where to go in his town to reach anything, seems to have only vaguely been aware that his 3 daughters existed before this incident, and - around the time we finally couldn't take it anymore and turned it off - can't even wash clothes, so instead he was just spraying them with perfume. The real kicker to that? Once his daughters catch him, instead of helping him do the laundry, his solution is to go and buy everyone all new clothes. When one of his daughters asks what they'll do when those have been worn, he replies that they'll burn them & buy more.
That kind of stupid is painful. Nothing in this movie was even remotely funny. My parents, who usually like these types of cheesy movies, couldn't even stand it. I had checked out and was only half-watching it to keep my sanity when my mom finally asked me to turn it off. This was around the time that it had ramped up its blatant product placement to become a full-on Wal-Mart commercial (that's where they went to buy their clothes, of course!).
I cannot overstate how horrible this movie is. Do not, under any circumstances, watch this garbage. If you should somehow accidentally see some of it, immediately seek professional help. 1/2 / 5 stars

You just played ANY version of RE4 or the remake for the first time?argyle wrote: Fri Oct 30, 2026 10:14 am

Sounds like just more male-incompetence propaganda. So fu**ing TEDIOUS! In the age-bracket I find myself, I remember the origins of this "movement" as just a whisper of sorts until things snowballed. It was just drips and drabs at first, but sooner or later it was all over the place. I always wonder how these cultural streams become raging rivers. I guess there's enough male-hatred out there giving it voice.argyle wrote: Fri Oct 30, 2026 10:14 am

I just got done watching La Peau de chagrin, a French made-for-tv treatment of the 1831 novel. It's a tale of getting everything you ever dreamed of only to find out that you already had everything you truly desired. Bittersweet and tragic. It didn't have high production values, but I enjoyed the version of the story.
It's free in English on YouTube, but I can't stand non-authentic speech in film. I'd always rather watch with subtitles, which I did here.
